Given to workers throughout DoD to protect the thyroid gland from a radiation emergency caused by an accident, nuclear weapon, or dirty bomb.
Among other things the directions state "Take Potassium Iodide only when public health officials tell you." In a radiation emergency radioctive iodine could be released into the air. Potassium iodid can help protect you."
These tablets have an expiration date of 6-2007 so they can only be sold as official issue collectibles.
Potassium iodide is quite stable when protected from moisture.
