These Chinese traditional Iron Balls trace their origin back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and have been made meticulously by the handicraftsmen through the ages. The balls being offered for sale are new, and are beautifully decorated with red dragons on a blue background. The case is new but has been in storage for many years, and as a result the cloth corners show some slight wear. I guarantee these have never been used, and only handled by me in preparation for listing on eBay.
Centuries ago, the Iron Ball was a solid ball, but were later enhance to be hollow with a sounding plate that makes a beautiful chime sound. In these Iron Balls, one ball a high tone, and one a lower tone -- both very melodic. The Iron Balls are covered with chromium, titanium and Jingtailan, and were gilded to decorate. The function of the Iron Balls is to sooth the soul and aid in circulation. When exercising, put the two iron balls on your palms, and crook and stretch the five fingers in sequence to cause the balls to rotate and revolve. Each Ball weighs over 4 oz., and the feel in the hand is very comforting!
